I think your doctor means this: A tune up (it's me again!) is when you go into the hospital for 2 weeks and have an IV put into your arm. It doesn't hurt that much, especially if they put numbing cream on first and give you a special pill to make you calm (I call it the happy-pill! ) . Then, for two weeks they pump medicine into the IV. When they're done, they gently pull it out. I think this is what your doctor meant.

i think a tune up is just like tuning up your car so it is running at its best so for a kid with cf it would probably be filling you up with fluids and clearing out your lungs and empting your bowls so on and so forth you get the picture ha!!!! let me know if you get this mackenzi10

I've had more tune ups than I can count, so if you need advice or anything, just send off a post. Getting the IV placed isn't so fun, but EMLA cream and as Katie said, a calming 'happy' pill will probably help. Also, drink lots of water before they put it in- being hydrated fattens up your veins!

hey yeah, i agree with Coll... i've had so many tune ups, its ridiculous (sry, im not a very good speller), they just put you on an IV for like 10-14 days, sometimes you can go home with the IV and do "a home clean out".

like Coll said, use EMLA... and they give you a numbing shot before anyways, but you don't feel it b/c of the EMLA. The happy pills a good idea if you don't like blood/needles, but i don't really like it all that much. Drink lots of water, not soda.

I used to go in during the spring, now i tend to go in the summer, and when i went in the spring, we called it spring cleaning... nobody asked after i told them that.

Hope everything turns out okay, and talk to your doctor about doing a home clean out... its so much better, better food too
