Hey, i'm only 14, but i thought i should ask adults this... I've seen commercails on TV about this new drug called Mucinex thats supossed to get rid of mucus that would otherwise be extremely difficult to get rid of. I was just wondering, can people with CF take it? i mean, what if it really improved lung function by helping get rid of some of the mucus... i was just wondering if any one has heard of some one with CF taking it, or i can just ask my dr.

I got the impression from the ads that it wouldn't do much for a CFer. That perhaps it doesn't do nearly the same thing it advertises doing, because our bodies aren't the "norm."

But it's definitely worth asking your doctor about. <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

Mucinex = Guifenesin.
Guif is used to thin mucus.. so it doesn't get rid of it.. just helps make it thinner and get it out of us easier.

i was on it for a while (few yrs seems like).. and maybe it helped.. i stopped taking it.
seemed like if i just drank water/juice etc like i'm suppose to, that it works as well/better than the guifenesin... and doesn't introduce another drug into the body.

Its over the counter now ( i had to get RX) so it may not be that expensive to try for few weeks and see if you noticed a difference.
