I dont know if anyone remembers, but a few months ago I asked what I should do about my job. I explained how it was flexible and they understood my condition but I wasnt getting my treatments like I should, not eating right, and worse of all being exposed to second hand smoke (they would smoke when I wasnt there but it stayed in the air) causing, what I believe, was an increase in lung infections. I talked to them numerous times about the smoke, and they promised to stop smoking inside (and it would get better for a little while) but the problem always returned.

Well it took a bad cold in January and a pneumothorax in April (which I'm still recovering from)...I have agonized on what I should do, and instead of returning to those conditions and jepardizing my health any farther, I haved decided it was in my best interest if I didnt return. So, I talked to my boss today and I offically quit my job! I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders! Plus, my boss and I are still on good terms. Now, I will be able to concentrate on my overall health.

But I am not gonna sitting doing nothing. A few months ago I signed up for an internet class for Medical Transcription. So now I can put all of my time and energy into this class and hopefully get a job where I will be able to work from home.

I'm sorry that was so long, but I just wanted to share this update because it was a huge step for me. Thanks for reading

I am glad you decided this. The long term affects we know could not have been good. Good luck on the course!

I agonize continually about my decisions regarding working. I think it's AWESOME that you left - it's a big step and takes a lot of courage, especially when it's not as if you CAN'T work, but more of a lifestyle/health choice. I've also heard that medical transcription is a great job if you're interested in working from home. Congrats on this major accomplishment - it IS a huge step and, though I don't know you well yet, I can still say I'm proud of you for taking care of yourself (emotionally as well as physically). Best of luck on the class!

Congrads on your decision!!!!!!!

Even though I know from experience its not an easy one to make. It took me 3 years to make my decision to quit work. And after I quit it took me just as long to really be at peace with it. I now love being a housewife and I have a lot of pride in it too!!! Good Luck!!!!

I have just started medical transcripting from home. You can make money. I am currently working at another job until I get confident enough to do it full time. A friend of mine set me up and is planning on turning over one of the company that she has to me in January. Good Luck on you venture and congrats on quite your job.

I have just started medical transcripting from home. You can make money. I am currently working at another job until I get confident enough to do it full time. A friend of mine set me up and is planning on turning over one of the company that she has to me in January. Good Luck on you venture and congrats on quite your job.

thanks for the support everyone. It really means a lot to me.

Hairgirl, I am going through East Carolina University here in NC. It is actually not too far from me, but everything is online. If you want some more info (website to look at the course info, cost, what is provided, etc.), just PM me.

I'll be praying that the transition goes well for you. Give yourself some time to adjust too it. One thing I have learned (now that I'm not in the office 40hrs a week) is that I needed to take time for myself before starting new projects. For the first little while that I was at home, I allowed myself to just kick back. It was frustrating at first, because I felt like I was being a total slug, but my body truly needed the pampering. Now that I've regained a little ground, I have more enthusiasm for my writing and transcription projects.

I'm glad you've decided to quit. That's a major decision and one I'm sure you didn't take lightly. If you ever feel discouraged or anything, please go ahead and PM me. {hugs}

Your friend,
Lauren
