This is a bit off topic, but I think it is a good topic overall in life; be it any challenges: illness, life, relationships.

Sometimes I remember this and then sometimes I just don't.

Picking the conscientious minds of the CF community.

What is the first step, or steps to forgiveness?

acceptance and understanding IMO.

I like philosophical topics, I wish there were more

We don't gain anything by keeping up walls in life. You must love everybody, we all need it.

If you don't forgive it's like carrying around luggage every day, think how heavy that wld be to carry it all over, to move it everywhere you went, by mid-day you would be exhasuted and sooner or later you would try to make the luggage lighter, and lighter till you finally felt you didn't need to carry it at all you had everything you needed in your heart&soul. I've had to forgive many times, it's always hard but you can work it out most times.

When forgiveness is difficult, ask upon the one who forgives us for all--God.

I try to let go of anger first - I need some outlet... for me physila work does the job - go for a run or something like that - so I'm droping
then I give it time and try to understand.

@Jeana

I guess that would be relevant to someone who is religious but certainly every person is capable of forgiveness whether by god or self.

I suppose a relevant question to pose to a religious person with CF would be "do you forgive god?"

When I think of how much I've needed forgiveness in life, its much easier to forgive others. (I didn't say easy, but easier...)
If I held on to everyone's rude or hurtful comments, thoughtless actions or slights, that would basically mean I was telling myself that I've never done that to anyone else. Which of course I have because we are all imperfect, we all sin, and we all make mistakes-whether intentional or not.
A scripture that comes to mind is "even as God freely forgave you, so do you also." For me, that sums it up.
I want to teach my daughter to be a peaceful person. That can be really hard sometimes in this world, but I have to try to show it by my actions. And thats a big motivation for me to be forgiving, the example I'm setting for her.
Btw-this isn't a religious debate. Its everyone's individual feeling and way of coping with forgiveness. (Entropy-the last question that you posed is another conversation all together.)
I have different religious beliefs than many here, but I'm happy to hear everyone else's.

Forgiveness can be hard. I have to agree that acceptance is probably the first step.

I think that the closer you are to the person you need to forgive, the harder it is, because the hurt is deeper. Forgiving ourselves is sometimes the hardest.

WHY WOULD I NEED TO FORGIVE GOD????? God has done nothing and will never do anything that HE needs to be forgiven for.
